Cancel the Kelly Miller Circus "Performance" in Verplanck, NY

The Issue

When news broke to us about the circus "coming to town" we did not assume the worse. With further investigation we came to find that actually this is the worst. Kelly Miller Circus has been accused of both animal abuse and RAPE. 

"Kelly Miller Circus has been torturing animals since it started in 1938.  Recent allegations of animal abuse witnessed by many people cited an eyewitness’s report of seeing a handler repeatedly whip zebras during a performance. One of the zebras almost fell out of the ring. Another eyewitness also claimed seeing another handler forcefully striking a small dog on the face. Also, when the camels and zebras were not performing, they were “tied so tightly and close to a trailer they could barely move.”

The Kelly Miller Circus has been cited for denying veterinary care to animals, public endangerment, and other Animal Welfare Act violations.  A staff member of Kelly Miller Circus was  charged with raping a 14 year old attendee of the circus.  Parents aware of the rape charges have withdrawn their support of the Kelly Miller Circus and refuse to let their children attend any of their performances.

Recently, an eyewitness at Kelly Miller Circus caught a female elephant being beaten until she screams.  Like other animal circuses who torture animals, Kelly Miller Circus is very close to being shut down for good."

We can not believe the lack of research that the Rotary Club of Cortlandt has done to allow this to come to OUR TOWN. They are putting both animals and OUR CHILDREN at risk by sponsoring this "performance".  

We are asking you to sign this petition to have the ROTARY CLUB OF CORTLANDT MANOR and President SHARON IRVING CANCEL this "performance".

“We have brought the Kelly Miller Circus to our area twice in the past with support for them from our community. When we didn't have them return for 2012 there were many people asking why we did not bring them back, since they had enjoyed the show the previous years. The answer was they did not stop in NY State since 2012. They are NOT what you accuse them of. We have had the animals blessed each time by a minister who would attest to the beautiful condition of the animals. We work side by side with their employees that are just nice people trying to make a living giving, smiles to some along the way. Please understand that not everything you read on the internet or hear from others is always true. My mom always said believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. That statement might well apply to this whole subject. I invite any/all of you to be our guest/s on Tuesday or Wednesday morning at 9am on the grounds to make your own decision on this, instead of relying on other ways. I will personally be there to greet you and walk around with you.
