The Issue

Hello, my family and I have been active recyclers and residents of Roscommon Township for about 10 years now. During the summer months you'll find us pulling a trailer behind our E-Z-GO golf cart with our now 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son that is full of our recyclables to the transfer station located on Towerhill Rd. Our children just love to help us with this. We like to make our recycling trips fun to in hopes have them follow in our steps to continue to recycle and help our planet one piece of plastic or paper at a time.

Now the problem starts here though. During the winter months in Roscommon Township they only have the transfer station on Towerhill Rd. open every other Saturday for a 6 hour window from 9am - 3pm. This is due to the fact that they used to move it to the township hall on Knapp Rd. in past years but it was abused with contractors putting building materials in there and residents putting trash and such.

I understand that this is a great opportunity to still be able to recycle but the problem arises when what if I can't make it on a pre-determined Saturday. What if there is inclement weather that Saturday. Maybe I just can't make it in the 6 hour window. Arrive last minute and the smaller bin is full and no room for my recyclables? The list of possibilities could just continue. If this does happen now I'm stuck housing 4 weeks or possibly more of recyclables until I can fit into there pre-determined Saturday schedule.

I have personally reached out to the supervisor of Roscommon Township numerous times with multiple ideas with no success. As well I have contested my concerns at township meetings with no resolution either. This is where you all come in. Lets get a bunch of us onboard to see if we can get this recycling bin back to the township hall so there are almost limitless times you/we can recycle.
