Justice from Title IX.

Justice from Title IX.

The Issue

My name is Suzanne Litwinka.

I am currently a upcoming senior at CCPA Roosevelt University. My freshman and sophomore  year of college I was raped. Both done by the same individual who I thought of as a close friend. He violated my body, our friendship, and our trust. I have lost friends, and even myself throughout this whole process.

I recently reported the incident back in October of 2019. During this time I was never informed of the logistics of title IX. I assumed the investigators would handle the situation properly and appropriately. It wasn’t until I received a decision in March that my abuser was to be expelled after the semester. I was relieved, however, in May he appealed the decision and his exclusion was revoked due to the investigation taking to long. My safety, mental stability, and overall rights as a woman were violated. Just because the investigation took longer than what is required the university took back everything. I was called a burden by the appeal officer because this was supposedly my fault. They took back the original decision and granted him approval to return in the fall of 2020.

I am asking you to sign not just for me but for all the other people who have had the same experience as I. The Title IX process needs to change. It is not okay that I get raped twice and he gets to return to the university with no consequences for his actions.  It is not okay that I’m not rightfully informed how the investigation process goes. I am not what happened to me. I was not asking for it. I am not a burden on my abuser.
