"The Fight to preserve our music and culture Is going to another level said," Anwan "Big G" Glover " Make Go-Go 4EVA co-executive producer, actor and founder of DC's Backyard Band.

This Go-Go Museum and Cafe production, a partnership with the PKWY agency, is an episodic competition series exploring the generational influence of DC’s native sound. In this competition, executive producers Ron Moten and Anwan “Big G” Glover, along with other industry heads, will take charge in leading younger generations to activism while developing artistry and performance. As part of keeping this culture alive, it’s important to educate the next generation on the social power of music, advance new artists, musicians and band leaders to amplify DC’s sound and secure its future to Make Go-Go 4Eva.

Tonight's event will be a meeting of the minds: creators, producers, facilitators, experts, judges all gather to discuss the series and what will be next.

WHY GO-GO?

Pioneered by the late and legendary Chuck Brown, crowned the Godfather of Go-Go, the go-go sound was popularized by the early 80s. Led by strong bass and percussion now known as the “pocket” takes you deeper into the groove with a steady beat that can be held for hours on end. As gentrification continues, many Washingtonians maintain a tight grip on the go-go culture and history of “Chocolate City” sparking the #DontMuteDC movement that began in 2019.

This rebellion against gentrification garnered more than 80,000 signatures with petition created by Ron #DontMuteDC co-founders Moten and Dr. Natalie Hopkinson as people from across the country and more than 94 countries should solidarity against culture erasure of Go-Go Music. The movement has made a significant impact since its inception, from the return of go-go to Central Communications/MetroPCS to the restoration of more than $75 million in funding to DC organizations serving Black communities.

Tuesday's meeting is to discuss the goals of the competition and hear from young talent who seek to be one of the vehicles that help preserve Go-Go Music.

Stay tuned for more details as Ron Moten and Anwan “Big G” Glover travel through Washington, DC to promote the next round of auditions at the Go-Go Museum, Howard Theater and Kennedy Center .
