The confederate flag is a symbol of the Confederate States of America. The CSA was established in 1861 when 11 states seceded from our young country. The revolt was inspired by the election of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln did not want slavery to extend to new territories, and Southerners feared their way of life would be targeted next. The result was a civil war that ended in defeat for the south, and nearly abolished slavery in the United States. During the Civil War, the southern states flew the Confederate Flag as they fought to keep slavery . Since then, the flag has been used by hate groups, including the KKK.

This symbol is not heritage, it is hate. It has no place in the learning environment and the fact that the NPPSD is tolerant to it is shameful. Get hate off our school property!
