The non-enforcement of use of illegal fireworks in Florida affects veterans, people diagnosed with PTSD and animals. Every year countless people and pets are affected. Under Florida law, only sparklers, approved by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal, are legal for consumer usage. It is illegal to use exploding and/or flying fireworks in Florida, which include: shells and mortars, multiple tube devices, Roman candles, rockets and firecrackers. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor I have seen veterans and people diagnosed with PTSD affected by fireworks. As the Director of WinterParkLostPets.com I have seen firsthand the trauma inflicted upon pets and their owners as well as reports of missing pets, pet injury and deaths due to fireworks. If this law is not enforced, the very people who give their lives for our country (veterans) as well as people diagnosed with PTSD will be further traumatized, and our pets and their owners may/will develop trauma- related diagnosis.Let’s enforce this law!
