SB1024 will end net metering in Florida by January 1st 2023. Met metering is a program that offers power generated by owners of solar panel systems that is added to the grid and bought by the power company. It is important to have as many voices be heard about Florida Light and Power screwing over the people of Florida with rate hikes and taking away solar business and jobs in our state.

  The mount of harm will be irreparable to the economic future for generations. Not only will it hurt jobs of so many in the solar industry but also the ability for current owners to get service and repair of our systems when solar companies pull out of Florida as well as the ability for solar panel owners to sell their home when the time comes and the new owners will not be allowed net metering. Net metering has been available statewide in Florida since 2008. Since then, Florida has seen more than a 10,000% increase in the number of renewable energy system interconnections. Peace River Electric Co-op in Sarasota and Manatee counties  stopped net metering and the reduction in these counties for the past three years effectively putting a halt to solar installations in that area and could be an example of the future for Florida.  Florida has 15,000 jobs In the solar industry. And it adds $18.3 billion to Floridas economy.
  With Florida Light and power having a heavy hand in writing the SB 1024 bill the utility company is essentially stealing power from owners of solar panel systems. The company will take the power and sell it back to consumers at astounding profit without having to pay for the electricity generated by our systems that have been paid for out of our own pockets. Claim that solar panel owner won’t pay their fair share and that we don’t add for upkeep of the grid yet FPL takes energy from solar owners and wants it at their cost, it’s hypocritical seeing how they won’t pay for maintenance or repair to to solar panel owners for their maintenance, wear and tear of our systems.

 This bill will cost the state of Florida it’s ability to keep solar power affordable and economical and the ability to have solar power companies stay in business in our state. It will also keep lower income families the ability to get solar power and have them keep paying rate hikes from FLP for generations indefinitely. 
The war on net metering isn’t just here. California has also put in plans to end net metering by 2023. Don’t let it happen here!
