End the Death Penalty in Florida

End the Death Penalty in Florida
The Issue
Dear Governor Desantis, I am petitioning for the death penalty to be put to an end in our home state of Florida, or at least for it to be put up for vote, for the people to decide. There are several key points to why the death penalty should not exist.
One, others lives are not for us to take, no matter what they have or haven't done to others. It is not right to say that murder is justified in this case, simply because the government has decided on it. If we live in a democracy of freedom, our citizens lives, should not be in the hands of our justice system, because they too are imperfect people as has been demonstrated in the past. We should not show others that if you are in the justice system you have the right to commit murder.
Two, many innocent people have been put to death, by the imperfect people who lead our justice system. One innocent life taken over this type of punishment is more than enough, don't you think? It is the only form of punishment that can never be overturned, or in any way, reversed. There has been many questionable cases like that of Nathaniel Woods who was executed in Alabama, in March of this year. His sister's plea for another trial was silenced, and the man who possibly did it got away with it. That is not justice.
Three, most people, don't accept the death penalty without a fight, making it an excruciatingly long process for everyone involved, including the victims and/or their families. The death penalty does much more harm than good, so I ask everyone, whether in Florida or not, to please support me in removing this type of punishment, that has been proven to be cruel and dysfunctional.
Why do we kill people who kill people, to show people that killing is wrong- Holly Near
