TIAA-CREF: DIVEST completely from military-style weapon manufacturers

This petition had 4,332 supporters

After the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012, a group of concerned clients called on TIAA-CREF to divest from the corporations responsible for manufacturing military-style weapons like the one used to mow down twenty small children and six adults. TIAA-CREF completely ignored our petition to divest. Now, we are again calling on you to do the right thing. American Outdoor Brands (Smith & Wesson) and Sturm, Ruger & Co have enabled—have even profited from—many more deaths since our last petition, including the 49 at the Pulse night club in 2016, the 58 shot from above at the Harvest Music Festival on the Vegas strip in 2017, and now, those of 17 high school students and teachers in Parkland, FL.

TIAA-CREF, with your mission “to serve [y]our customers and to provide outcomes that truly matter to them,” you need to understand that what truly matters to the undersigned is to have a positive impact on the people in our society. We do not want to be (even in some small way and through no choice of our own) responsible for suffering, death, and destruction. These corporations have demonstrated that they put profits above people, and we want no part in them. We call on TIAA-CREF to completely divest.
