This interview with Rodney Reed was conducted in the fall of 2003 at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston, Texas almost five years after he was sent to death row for the murder of Stacey Stites, a crime he maintains he did not commit. The interview is being offered largely unedited, with the questions summarized. The two journalists who conducted and filmed the interview were not recorded.
In this interview, Rodney Reed discusses his preexisting relationship with Stacey Stites, witnesses to that relationship and his alibi for the crime. He also discusses events surrounding his arrest and prosecution for the crime. Reed discusses the performance of his court appointed attorneys (Lydia Clay-Jackson and Calvin Garvie), the conduct of the prosecutors (Charles Penick and Lisa Tanner) and the actions of his trial judge (Harold Towslee). Reed also answers questions relating to a DNA lab report that surfaced after his trial that named two police officers (Ed Salmela and David Hall) as having DNA that was found on evidence at the location where the victim's body was found. Rodney also discusses aspects of his personal life prior to the conviction, as well as his hopes and dreams for the future - "God willing" he is eventually freed and exonerated for the crime.
