Lauren McDermott started this petition to Rochford District Council and

Rayleigh is a lovely town with outstanding schools it attracts lots of young families however the playgrounds are the worst I have seen for miles. Almost all of the parks and playgrounds in Rayleigh have equipment broken or missing and are very outdated. Visiting all neighbouring towns you see a very different picture, Wickford, Brentwood, Basildon and Maldon parks and playgrounds are worlds apart from Rayleigh’s? These local towns have fantastic parks, most of which have been updated 2 or 3 times in the last 10 years whilst most if not all of Rayleigh’s playgrounds have been left to deteriorate for decades.

Rayleigh seems to be a thriving town with all the new houses and developments being built and the constant roadworks to improve roads and traffic there doesn’t appear to be a lack of budget. With this in mind this will only attract more families with children and it’s only fair they have somewhere decent to play. I contacted Rayleigh’s local MP Mr Mark Francois to get an explanation and find out what future investment there would be into our parks and playgrounds - he has apparently passed over my case to Rochford Council but I have heard nothing further.

I hope people will join me in trying to move this forward, It doesn’t require millions of pounds of investment and yes I am fully aware aware that the past year has been challenging but the rest of Essex are in the same situation, those councils seem to be able to invest in their parks and playgrounds.
