Robert Morgan Educational Center's current uniform policy of color-coordinated polo shirts that correspond with an individual student's academy and any school-appropriate pair of pants, as well as Friday alternative colors or club t-shirt is the most efficient uniform policy RMEC could possibly have. Constricting students to only yellow, burgundy, and black polos, navy or khaki shorts, and jackets only containing the school's logo is not only unfavorable, but is also unethical. We are not petitioning against the current uniform policy, we are simply speaking out against this new policy. Forcing students already attending the school to go out and purchase costly new uniforms, making jeans an option only on Fridays at the cost of $1, and imposing this strict new policy would pose yet another burden on the backs of the student body. With there already being a recent change with the new logo and the consolidation of two academies, many students were put in a position where they had to purchase new uniform polos to accommodate that policy, unaware of the lenient approach administration took with this issue. This petition proposes the discarding of the new uniform policy after obtaining more than 1,300 signatures from students, parents, faculty, and staff. As students, teachers, faculty and staff against this potential new policy, we are protected under the First Amendment to have the freedom of speech, press, assembly, and petition. Our outspoken voices will be heard in efforts to fight the implementation of this stricter uniform policy.
