IAMS, a major pet food company, tests on animals in harmful ways in order to receive information needed for their products. IAMS tries to hide their testing procedures; however PETA has tried to get IAMS to stop all terminal testing. IAMS has stopped some, but not all. They spend a lot of money to conduct these unnecessary harmful tests.  Other pet food companies conduct tests too without harming animals. We want IAMS to stop all terminal testing on animals.

IAMS supports cruel and unnecessary killing of animals in order to produce their products. Footage shows that IAMS representatives toured the facility and witnessed dogs who, while in cells circled and sweltering in summer heat. IAMS knew the truth, yet did nothing to protect these animals. IAMS knows what's going on with the testing but does nothing to help the innocent animals. There’s no need for frightened and defenseless animals to suffer through cruel tests for the sake of IAMS to gain information that can be received  in different less harmful ways. IAMS gave Purdue University nearly $200,000 to conduct a 2-year study in which experiments taped tails of mice to the tops of cages to keep their hind legs suspended in mid air. Unnecessary experiments like this harm mice for information IAMS can just compromise and use other ways to find the info.

There’s many other ways to test pet food without causing cruelty to animals.“PetSci”( an organic animal food company)  does test on animals, but does not harm them . “In home studies have shown to work and have strong scientific support,as shown in Pet Sci.“More than 30 companies offer vegetarian dog and cat food such as Harbingers of a New Age, Natural Life Pet Procompanieducts, Inc., Petguard, Veterinary Nutritional Formula, and Wysong Professional Diets, conduct humane in-home testing or laboratory analysis of foods instead of animal experiments.”This evidence just shows many companies’ ability to produce products without harming/killing animals .Also some veterniary clinics have united with some of these companies to produce this system which allows sick animals who volunteered by their guardians participate in humane feeding trials that can determine beneficial effects of nutrition on a specific illness.In result these companies exist in fact testing or having “labratory analysis”on animals, but they evidently benefit the animals because these animals illnesses in which products help determine whether nutrients can actually help them recover both mentally and physically.

IAMS produces food for pets, thus people who buy this product obviously love animals. Testing on animals leads to bad publicity for IAMS, because obviously people who buy the product care about animals and would not approve of these actions. On IAMS website they promote themselves by promoting adoption and donation for animals, when they themselves experiment on animals. People became aware of the experiments conducted by the IAMS company and can return products due to their experiments. A video was released by PETA when they sent in an undercover representative to investigate the IAMS contract laboratory. Viewers around the world who have seen this video, experience something tortuous and inhumane. IAMS needs to realize this video’s only the beginning of their reputation damaged as a pet providing company. With more people aware of their animal testing they’ll start to lose more profit from all of their products, so we would advise IAMS to stop all the testing in order to keep their profits from decreasing.

To conclude our request on achieving to stop all terminal testing on animals we urge you to find other ways not harming any creature. Model your policy after Natural Life Pet Products, Inc. and Petguard who don’t test on animals in order to produce their products. Testing methods, if they continue, should best be done, how PetSci runs their testing. There’s no need to harm or kill animals to produce products because other companies successfully produce their products without testing on animals. Claiming that your company cares about animals by promoting adoption and donation services on your website contradicts the harmful testing you do behind the scenes. Don’t continue the testing because the public will think of you as cruel people who don’t care about animals. The continued killing of animals will only bring bad publicity and hatred once all your customers (animal lovers) find out the harm done.
