This morning, we have surpassed 20,000 signatures,
THANKS TO YOU.
The group of people who is backing this Change.org petition is small. But we are mighty, and we will not go rest easy until real change is made.
We have seen every comment of support, and we truly appreciate you lending your voice to support our cause. This is about one particular judge and one particular case - but this is about our society and world as a whole. This is for every survivor, in every case. This is standing up to say we do listen, we do care, and we will use our power to fight for what is just and right.
Here is some of our progress so far:
Cammy Vaughan has been allowed the opportunity to share her story far and wide. She is a brave and exemplary heroine for all survivors. We are so happy to be a part of her journey, and we are excited to see her light continue to glow brighter and brighter as her life progresses past this one incident that has haunted and consumed her for far too long.
Judge Adrian has received a slap on the wrist. He was reassigned from all his felony cases and currently is attending to several lesser dockets; we are not satisfied with this. We will continue to ask the Illinois Courts Commission and our elected officials to more thoroughly penalize Robert Adrian for his disturbing commentary.
Drew Schnack, the lawyer representing Drew S. Clinton, has been interviewed by several major media outlets, and he allowed Muddy River News to attend and record those interviews. We believe a number of statements made by Mr. Schnack were worth sharing:
"The issue has always been one of consent. Did the young lady consent to the sexual activity that occurred in the basement that night?" - Schnack, to Inside Edition
"She participated to a limited extent," - Schnack, to Inside Edition
"I don't know that [Drew S Clinton] totally understands anything of what's going on other than he was in jail and he didn't like it," - Schnack, to Good Morning America
"The judge that made this decision ... granted five pre-trial motions dealing with rape shield to prohibit me from attacking this girl, as I would have liked to have done," - Schnack, to Good Morning America
Schnack also made a comment about how grassroots efforts like ours are no good at all and we should not "shoot our mouths off."
... ... oops?
To be fair, Drew Schnack did make one statement that we agree with wholeheartedly. He said, "The truth never changes."
And he's right about that.
