Rent is continuing to rise at an exponential rate. With Brexit, the pandemic, austerity and wages stagnant more than ever rent controls are needed. Housing should not be seen as a luxury, it is a basic human right that everyone should have access to safe and affordable accommodation in line with the national average of wages. Currently in England we spend approximately half our wages on rent. With council and housing association waiting list at an all time high, now more than ever is the time for change.
