Dear friends,
As we reported in our last update, Betty has been spotted performing with the Carden International Circus in Texas.
After a thorough review of the video evidence of the elephants by experts, CWI has filed an urgent complaint with the USDA for multiple violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act on behalf of Betty, Cindy, and Janice. We are especially concerned for Betty, as her condition appears to have worsened. She needs a thorough, independent veterinary assessment immediately and to permanently be taken off the road and out of performance.
Watch the video evidence here. And please share it on your social media channels. It is also available to share via our Facebook page.
The Carden International Circus received more than $350,000 through the Paycheck Protection Program during the pandemic. CWI did not. We ask you to please support our work to end animal cruelty by making a gift of any amount here.
As circuses return to the road dragging elephants and other animals with them, please remain vigilant and report any activity that you may see here: https://www.cwint.org/infosubmit.
Let us know you want to get involved when a circus heads to your region by signing up on the front page of our dedicated anti-circus cruelty website circusprotest.com.
If you are in Louisville, Kentucky, join our protests May 7-9. It is possible that Betty will be present at those performances.
For the animals,
Carrie LeBlanc, M.A.
