Disney: Acquire MGM for $1billion
The Issue
This petition is calling on The Walt Disney Company to consider plans to acquire the mini-major studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios for $1billion, including distribution rights to James Bond, The Pink Panther, and other MGM film library.
My name is Callum and i'm passionate for Disney. Like billions of others, i am a lifelong fan of Disney and i have grown up watching it for 18 years since i was born. I am also a fan of the James Bond film franchise that MGM has been achieved for the past 53 years. After hearing the news of Sony's distribution rights to the film series expired last year, the bid for the 007 rights are up for grabs. Warner Brothers was rumoured to be the new Bond distributor. Luckily, however, this perhaps will not worked out due the box office drop of Batman V Superman: Dawn for Justice.
Disney is the world's most powerful brand for the past several years since the acquisition of ABC, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Marker Studios. By the year 2114, it will become the largest company ever than others.
In 1985, Disney and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer entered into a licensing contract that give Disney worldwide rights to use the MGM name and logo for what would become Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios), which included working production facilities for movies and television shows and a satellite animation studio, which began operation prior to the park's debut. On 1st May 1989, the theme park opened adjacent to the production facilities, with MGM's only affiliation being the original licensing agreement that allowed Disney to use MGM's name and lion logo in marketing, and separate contracts that allowed specific MGM content to be used in The Great Movie Ride. When the park first opened, the only two attractions were the Studio Backlot Tour and The Great Movie Ride.
We are also concerned Disney to allow MGM releasing it's films under the Walt Disney Pictures label for G, PG and PG-13 rated films while R-rated films to be released under the MGM label separately. MGM may expire home video deal with Fox earlier than predicted to allow Disney to distribute MGM library on home media as well. However, MGM's other distribution deals; such as Warner Brothers, may be jeopardised if the deal was completed.
Future James Bond films will release every 3-4 year cycle according to MGM's owner Gary Barber. Walt Disney Pictures should release Bond 25 instead of Sony, WB, Paramount, Fox, or Universal.
James Bond film series may be the first MGM reissue release under the Disney brand for foreseeable future.
We are calling for Disney to acquire MGM for $1billion. The deal may include United Artists and Orion Pictures, as well as television operation including United Artists Media Group (UAMG). Disney may get 70% shares in MGM, unlike Sony (in which owned 20%)' Comcast (same as before); and public inquires (owned something % of it).
MGM may also acquiring complete control of the pre-May 1986 film library from Warner Brothers and Turner Entertainment by 2019.
Our hopes that Bond 25 will have a Martian War story (to be selected by EON Productions) based on my original idea since 2013.
P.S. This may mark the end of Touchstone Pictures, due to DreamWorks' involvement comes to the end, with it's final release after 32 years is The Light Between Oceans.
