Hold LEO's to the Highest Standard of the Law
The Issue
The recent killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis has led to mass Civil unrest by the fact that a Law Enforcement Officer Murdered an unarmed Black Man. We can make Formal Complaints all we want and Peaceful Protests day in and day out but when will we formally hold Law Enforcement Officers accountable for their actions.
We cannot just protest once in a blue, and let this pass after a few weeks of unrest. We can scream "F*ck The Police" all we want but how far will that go without holding Law Enforcement Officers accountable for their actions while on duty. We cannot just expect change by silently sitting aside and waiting for progress to be out of its own cesspool. During a peaceful protest on Sunday May 31st in Waterbury, CT we see on videos like these the slamming of a young girl onto the front of a police car by the very peace officers sworn in to protect and serve that and many communities like it. We cannot reason with Law Enforcement when they make it clear to us, they do not want to be reasoned with. We cannot continue to allow Law Enforcement to simply investigate themselves only to find themselves cleared of all wrong doings. We cannot allow Law Enforcement of all colors Black, White, and Brown to dress up in Riot Gear and act like Thugs in our communities and run around like a gang reppin their Thin Blue Line insignia, as they use violence, aggression, and even murder against the very people they have sworn to Protect and Serve under the guidance and protection of the Law. We cannot allow the concept that All Cops Are Bad overshadow the fact that the Good Cops continuously stand in the corner watching in cowardice as the Bad Cops proceeds to violate the Civil Rights of the Individual without reprieve. There is No Power in silent protest from among us as citizens of this great nation and especially from among those claiming to be Good Cops who clock in only to stand there silently, arms crossed as they witness their brothers and sisters in Blue desecrate the Civil Rights and Constitutional Law that peace officers around the country are tasked with upholding.
We cannot stand by without defending someone that literally took his final breaths as he spoke his last words of not being able to breath any longer until gasping for air one last time, taking his final breath, no longer to be seen moving in handcuffs face-down and still having an officers knee and or arms around his neck as we have seen in Minneapolis, New York, and many other times before even within our very own State.
We have a Solution to propose to take a stand and speak out in advocacy and to use the very power we have been granted by our Creator as described in the Bill of Rights of 1791 that all men are created equal. To end the stereotypical portrayal of the angry Black man as we clutch our purses as we walk on by one another because of differences in our skin color. As Law Enforcement Officers have so eloquently stated over and over again to hundreds, if not thousands of us Black, Brown, and even lower class Whites, "If you've got nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about."
Our solution? We propose that Law Enforcement Officers be held to the highest standard of the law and be convicted for violent crimes committed against any persons regardless of color, race, or creed, with the minimum sentence for such crimes committed while under Oath, under Badge, and while On or Off Duty as legal Sworn in Peace Officers of the Law, to the extent in which we pass legislation that indiscriminately sets out to give the maximum penalty for such violent crimes under the State Law to deter Law Enforcement Officers on the local and State level from committing such heinous and violent crimes be it Murder or assault. That they receive just sentences that are not otherwise, watered down or given lesser convictions than their civilian counterparts otherwise would get for committing the same offenses.
This is not an attack against Law Enforcement Officers who are Good Cops but rather this is a clear message of Justice, Law and Order for the Bad Cops who dare cross that thin line between doing their jobs within their legal authority and just following orders without just ramifications.
"If you're a good cop, you have nothing to worry about."
