Java the Hutt has been a staple in Roanoke Memorial Hospital for 14 years, and it is set to CLOSE September 23rd, 2021. The owner of Java the Hutt would be willing to (and wants to) continue running the shop. This petition is to request that Carilion’s Dining Services reconsider this decision/negotiation of their lease/contract parameters, as Java the Hutt brings JOY and CHEER to the staff and visitors with each cup of coffee, latte, and scone sold. When talking to co-workers in many departments, they question if the closing of this coffee shop will negatively impact overall worker moral and increase burnout (because for some, taking a quick break to grab a cup of Joe is.. what you need to get through your day with a smile, or to positively start your workday, and for some there are no other coffee shops open on their commute). As staff, we consider Java the Hutt to be a benefit of working at RMH. Everything from the flavors, to the kindness of the employees makes us love Java the Hutt.  

Especially as the pandemic rolls on, those undersigned request Java the Hutt remain open to caffeinate our bodies AND spirits. They are a part of the Carilion family, not just another part of a corporation. Caribou coffee just won’t cut it.
