Dear biggest Melbourne Universities,

I created this petition in light of the ongoing number of infected people in Australia due to the Covid-19 and Corona virus. Million of schools around the world, from America, Europe to Asia were set to close as governors ordered statewide shutdowns. WHO has officially confirmed the coronavirus as a pandemic, the most serious global outbreak of disease. 

The situation is escalating quickly in Australia. Do Aussies actually cover themselves around public? It seems like the Caucasian are very ignorant at this pandemic. We should take action and we should take it NOW. Waiting until the situation gets worse is wrong.

Things are getting out of hand in many countries due to the relaxing approach. Qatar and many other nations, which even with a very small number of infected people, have still decided to prevent the spread to help citizens stay safe. Universities have a large number of people from all parts of the world therefore we should expect the number of cases to dramatically and rapidly rise. The students can easily carry the virus on the way to campus through public transport which most of them have to take to go to school. Our primary focus should turn from containment to aggressively working to mitigate and limit the spread of the virus. Not to mention that under this chaotic situation, going to school and having contact with too many people is too stressful to focus on studying. I do believe that shutting down schools for a while is a safe measure for all of us: students, professors, assistants, secretaries and so on. In the era of technology, online lectures are easily available as well as online materials. Let's all be serious and help each other.
