Brendon Martinez started this petition to RK Productions and

Many of you will see my petition as a waste of time, and that is fine. Before you start getting angry about my protest, I ask that you first read what I have to say.

Like many of you, I am an annual viewer of the Super Bowl and the halftime show. Since 2004, the Super Bowl halftime show has been a little more cautious about what acts are chosen for the event. In 2007, Ricky Kirshner, founder of RK Productions, has served as executive producer of the Super Bowl Half Time show. Since thence have been witness to some decent Super Bowl half time shows such as Prince, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. All three are true performers who were there to put on the best performance possible and entertain the crowd. In years past we have also witnessed some very poor choices for the events like Beyonce, Madonna and this year’s snore fest Maroon 5. They either seemed like they were there to protest a cause or just simply didn’t care to be there.

Now, as a fan of rock and heavy metal music, I still give other genres the benefit of the doubt, even though it might not be pleasing to me. Sometimes I am surprised and find a new artist that I like, But I will get to the point.

In November of 2018, Adam LeVine labeled rock music as “irrelevant.” In an interview with Variety he stated:

“Rock music is nowhere, really. I don’t know where it is. If it’s around, no one’s invited me to the party. All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and flawed and real, and that’s why people love it.”

Corey Taylor did respond via Twitter to say;

“Just because you claim to have ‘Moves like Jagger’ doesn’t mean you come anywhere CLOSE to ROCKING like Jagger. Tell that schmuck to go back to the ————ing voice.”

Super Bowl LIII’s Half Time performance proved Mr. Taylor’s point. It would seem that Mr. LeVine took off his shirt in a desperate attempt to save his show. At least that was what I was hearing from the other room. I didn’t watch. I did, however, get a lot of negative feedback about the performance via social media.

According to wave.radio.com, rock music was the top-selling genre of 2018. Other sources say that 2018 was the first year that hip-hop outsold rock music, but was rock close second. In 2017, rock was the top-selling genre as well. You see where I am going with this. I can not find any immediate sources to say how many albums/downloads that Slipknot or Maroon 5 had in 2018 for statistics. Both performers have been Grammy winners and nominees.

So I propose that we give Corey Taylor a fair chance to prove himself? What are RK Productions afraid of? Profanity? Nudity? Music is TOO LOUD? Corey Taylor is a man about being professional to his name and his brand. He doesn’t want controversy. He knows how the world misjudges rock and metal music and so do I. He’s not the kind of guy to go out and make a personal statement on TV. He’s a professional and intelligent person. And if you are going to tell me that it’s too loud, well Adam LeVine’s microphone and Corey Taylor’s microphone are the same decibels. If it’s too loud then you have a problem with your sound guy.

Look, rock music is supposed to be fun. It’s supposed to be intense and high energy. It’s exciting. The wrong people give it the wrong image. It’s nowhere near as bad as ‘pop singer showing nipples on live television.” One of the parties involved was invited back, I believe? I say we give Corey Taylor a chance. He can’t make RK productions look any worse than Beyonce or Madonna did.
