PETITION FOR IMMEDIATE COMMENCEMENT
OF BAYSIDE I, II, AND III SEWER INSTALLATION

Riverview, Longmeadow, Bayside, and Highland Beach neighborhoods and other streets included in the Warwick Sewer Authority’s long-awaited Bayside I, II, and III Sewer Extension Projects need the Warwick Sewer Authority immediately to approve and implement the commencement of construction of the sewer system in our area.

The basis for this petition is clear and obvious. A sewer extension for our area has been planned and promised for three decades. In the meantime, we have been the victims of the many problems that this failed promise has carried, suffering: (1) deteriorated roads that have been cut into, poorly patched, and not repaved time and time again, as investigation of the sewer project and other utility work has occurred; (2) environmental degradation of the land and water in our community along Narragansett Bay, from the cesspools and septic systems that inadequately treat our wastewater as we patiently await sewer installation; (3) economic degradation of our home values for lack of proper wastewater treatment infrastructure, and, for some of us, because of the expense we have incurred in addressing failed wastewater treatment systems on our own; and (4) the social injustice of having many other areas of the City of Warwick receive sewer installation and road repaving while our community and the needs of its residents have been ignored.

The Warwick Sewer Authority must take immediate action to remedy these harms.
