The Issue

Warrior Baseball Association is a volunteer organization that has provided Northport and Tuscaloosa area families with youth baseball experiences for decades. Over the years, they have consistently grown in participation across multiple age groups. Historically, WBA has utilized the fields at Kentuck Park and have poured countless hours of volunteer labor and other resources into maintaining and improving the fields and facilities at the park.

As a volunteer coach I have seen the positive impact this program has made on young kids, parents and the community. I have seen it build self-confidence where there wasn't any, and provide a positive team atmosphere for kids who don't experience that on a regular basis (either at home or at school). The ability of WBA to expand their program through using the increased number of fields and facilities at River Run Park would have an immeasurable positive impact on our community.

Many families within the community have shown great interest in having WBA gain access to these new fields. Nevertheless, despite the logical benefits and clear need, Warrior Baseball has not been granted consistent or regular access to the River Run Park fields as was publically indicated they would have at the onset of this project.

We call upon the City of Northport to prioritize WBA access to the River Run Park fields and reaffirm their commitment to promoting family-friendly recreational activities and settings while optimizing the use of community resources. We call upon the City of Northport to publically affirm their continued partnership with WBA and help continue the growth and sustainability of this youth sports program.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the Warrior Baseball Association and help ensure that our youth have the necessary resources to thrive in their sports endeavors.
