Save Our Rio

Save Our Rio

Please sign this petition to save the Rio Cinema Dalston, its existence is under threat from its own board.
The Rio is the UK's oldest community run cinema, it has existed for over 41 years through many tough times, supported by local East London film lovers. The Rio is a non profit charity, its aims are to provide a diverse programme of films and events, to offer something for everyone, and for all income levels.
The current board seem to have forgotten this and want to make the staff redundant and are rumoured to want to have a commercial cinema chain operate the Rio one of the most iconic independent cinemas... this will NEVER happen
The people who should be guarding this community asset during lockdown have made it clear they don't care, and why?
Certainly not due to finance, the Rio staff are currently furloughed and a mix of grants and donations have kept the cinema in a stable financial condition so its ready to reopen when that is allowed.
So why? you ask them
The campaign to save the Rio entails getting Rio members to sign documents demanding the immediate resignation of the board, if you are a member then go to savetherio.org
If you are a supporter then please sign this and pass it on to friends
We have some excellent local people willing to stand as a temporary board until the next AGM when the Rio members can vote a new board in - that's democracy.
