Concerns have also been raised about the preservation of the Walnut tree on the Old Vicarage site as a much-loved local landmark and a vital habitat for jackdaws, squirrels, wood pigeons and a rare pair of collared doves who depend upon it for food, nesting and shelter. 

The National Park Authority has so far failed to provide formal, written confirmation that the tree and the wildlife who depend upon it will be protected from harm during the development, in accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act,  1981
