Bring a Youth E-Bike Park to Menifee

In Memory of Koa Myric Quintanilla

On August 12, 2026, our family experienced an unimaginable loss when 15-year-old Koa Myric Quintanilla was killed in a hit-and-run while riding in Menifee.

Koa's death has forced our family to look more closely at the safety of the roads our children travel every day and at the growing number of young people throughout Menifee who ride e-bikes.

These kids are already riding.

The question we need to ask as a community is:

Where can they ride safely?

Young e-bike riders often share roads with vehicles traveling at significantly higher speeds. Some areas lack sidewalks, protected bike lanes, safe shoulders, or designated spaces where young people can ride and gather away from vehicle traffic.

Education and enforcement are important, but they cannot be the only answer. If we want our kids to make safer choices, we also need to give them a safe place to go.

THE SOLUTION:

A SAFE E-BIKE PARK FOR MENIFEE YOUTH

Give them somewhere safe to ride.

In Koa's memory, we are asking the City of Menifee and our community leaders to explore the creation of a designated youth e-bike park. This would be a place designed for young people to ride, gather, practice their skills, learn responsible riding habits, and build community in an environment created with their safety in mind.

A Menifee youth e-bike park could include:

- Designated riding areas or tracks for different skill and experience levels.

- A safe gathering area for young riders away from busy roadways.

- Skills courses where riders can practice handling, braking, awareness, and responsible riding.

- Helmet, traffic safety, and e-bike education programs.

- Partnerships with local schools, businesses, law enforcement, safety organizations, parents, and young riders.

- Opportunities for the young people who will actually use the park to have a voice in its design.

- A place that encourages community, recreation, responsibility, and respect.

At the same time, we are asking Menifee to continue looking at the roads our children already use, including the need for safer bike routes, sidewalks, crossings, lighting, signage, speed controls, and other improvements in areas frequently traveled by children.

This is not about blame. It is about solutions.

E-bikes have become part of how many young people get around, spend time together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience independence.

Our community has an opportunity to respond to that reality proactively.

Instead of only telling kids where they cannot ride, let's work together to create somewhere they can.

LET KOA'S LEGACY CONTINUE TO PROTECT THEM

Koa was only 15 years old. He loved being outside, riding, spending time with his friends, music, football, and simply being a kid.

But one of the things that made Koa so special was the way he cared for and protected the people around him.

Koa leaves behind two younger brothers and a community of kids he cared about and protected.

While Koa can no longer be here to protect them himself, we have an opportunity to allow his legacy to continue doing so.

By creating a safe e-bike park in his memory, we can give his brothers, his friends, and generations of Menifee youth a safer place to ride, gather, learn, and simply be kids.

We cannot change what happened to Koa.

But we can decide what we do because of it.

Let Koa continue to protect the kids he loved by building something in his memory that protects them for years to come.
