Save FL Coastline - Stop Draining Lake Okeechobee

Save FL Coastline - Stop Draining Lake Okeechobee

The Issue

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues discharging water from Lake Okeechobee into rivers to the west and east of the lake.

Releasing lake water is ruining our coastline impacting tourism and killing thousands of animals including manatees, sharks, fish, birds and other at risk animals.  Tourists and residents alike are getting sick from the red tide being caused on the West Coast.

A slow-moving dike rehab that started in 2007, and includes adding a reinforcing wall, could take another decade to finish. Until then, draining remains the primary way to avoid flooding.

It is time for Rick Scott to end this dangerous practice and ensure the safety and health of our coastal animals, people and communities.  Enough is enough!

We call on Rick Scott to work quickly to determine a permanent plan for addressing the issues around Lake Okeechobee.
