The Issue
Summary: I made this petition to make sure that Meijer stops selling fish altogether.
much like many in Michigan, I have been going to Meijer grocery store for almost my whole life, once a week every week I get my ingredients for meals and sometimes get some toys or check out the clothes but after I got into fish keeping I've realized how horrible the conditions are for the fish that are kept there. If these were cats or dogs there would be outrage so we have to fight for the underdogs.
Bettas do not belong in cups, bettas are not beginner fish and do not live in puddles they originate from Thailand and live in massive fields of shallow water, bettas deserve better.

a major key factor for the abuse would be this "the following factors constituting welfare problems have been identified: an aquarium of limited dimensions, prevalence of Mycobacterium spp. infection, aggression to and from conspecifics or other species in the same aquarium and the limited ability to escape, the potential for stress due to prolonged visual contact between males in shops and during shows, and the lack of environmental enrichment in the form of sheltering vegetation."

Goldfish are not starter fish, goldfish NEED 20 gallons per fish, goldfish deserve better.
all the livestock sold there are kept in miserable conditions if they are not dead already they are on the road to being dead and with employees who are not at all trained to care for fish this shows a sure sign of pure negligence on the companies part.
by law, the store falls under cruelty and neglect.
