Richmond Park is a vital part of the road infrastructure around Richmond, East Sheen, Roehampton and Kingston. Royal Parks have used COVID-19 to implement a ban on cars that has now been extended into a six-month trial with a view to permanent road closures of some roads and gates. 
This will have a detrimental effect on residential roads all around the park, which will increase congestion and pollution. Cars have always been allowed in the park, although Royal Parks have previously tried and failed (because of local opposition) to stop cars driving in the park.
