Develop Croydon Conference Should Issue Affordable Tickets for Croydon Residents

The Issue

The "Croydon - London's Future" Conference hosted by Develop Croydon on 18th November 2015 at Fairfield Halls in Croydon has been planned in an undemocratic way.

Many people are coming together to discuss Croydon's future and yet the general public has not been invited and furthermore excluded due to the high ticket prices.

We live in an age where democracy is the norm and it is common practice to invite the whole community when discussing community issues.  To talk about broad topics such as the socio-economics and politics of the borough and how to "transform communities" without including the people who live and work in the community is to create division.

To charge high ticket prices for a gathering focused on the community is to encourage segregation based on wealth. Any form of segregation weakens community cohesion and, in fact, works against the positive ideals that the Conference is trying to promote.

Therefore, Develop Croydon should make 25 tickets available to individuals living in borough at £25 so that some Croydonians can attend.

We welcome an honest and open dialogue with Richard Plant, Chairman of Develop Croydon Forum, for a swift resolution to this problem.
