Injustice for 21 dogs returned to hoarder

Dear Chief Judge D'Amour,
We are writing to express our deep dissatisfaction regarding the ruling by Magistrate Judge J. August Straus on July 21, 2017. The animal rescue community participated in the rescue of 68 dogs from deplorable conditions from 9400 Hillview, the property of Martha Crosley. Ms. Crosley plead guilty to 5 counts of animal cruelty, yet for an inexplicable reason, Magistrate Judge Straus returned 21 dogs to Ms. Crosley. It is beyond logic and justice that a magistrate would return 21 neglected dogs to the hands of their abuser. Magistrate Straus' decision rips many of the dogs from loving foster homes where they have a family and places them back into living in a collapsible crate for the rest of their lives. These are dogs are sentient beings and deserve more protection from our court system than they received from Magistrate Straus.
While we know that you are not in a position to overturn Magistrate Straus, we know that it is an appointed position and we hope that you will review the ruling in this case when his position is evaluated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and letting us be the voices for those neglected animal victims who cannot be heard in this matter.
