End the Animal Cruelty Challenges on ITV's I'm a Celebrity

The Issue

This year we saw Ferne McCann, of TOWIE fame, eat a live water spider for the sake of entertainment, as well as the always returning Witchetty grub.  It is not hard to see that this is unnecessary cruelty for a quick squirm and a laugh.  Both of these insects are, in fact, essential parts of our ecosystem, and it seems that the world will get on board when they are close to extinction instead of now, whilst we have the chance to stop it before it gets there.

In 2014 Chris Packman, TV wildlife presenter, spoke out about the abuse to living creatures on I'm a celebrity - get me out of here.

He said "The problem is that animals such as snakes, spiders, crocodiles, rats and many invertebrates are already misunderstood and thus unfortunately vilified, despite the incredibly important roles they play in the world's ecosystems and our lives. By orchestrating a fear of them among your contestants, I'm afraid you're reinforcing and exaggerating a terrible ignorance and intolerance of these remarkable animals."

The truth is that ITV has already been fined for animal cruelty on this show when, in 2010 Gino D'Campo and Stuart manning killed a rat and it, ITV accepted responsibility and paid the fine to have the charges dropped.  So 5 years later, how are they still getting away with it?

This petition is aimed at Richard Cowles, the current co-producer at I'm a celebrity, to put an end to the animal cruelty.  The petition is not against the show, the contestants, or Ant and Dec.  The show has every opportunity to be as entertaining without the cruelty.  Hundreds to thousands of animals and insects are harmed every year for the sake of this show, it needs to end.

please share this if you feel it is a worthwhile cause,  together we can get the producers to take notice and take steps towards ending the harm.
