Dear Supporters of Stand Up for Dogs’ Petition Initiatives, We want to let you know that we’re a little behind schedule in posting the new action-oriented Change.org petition that will ratchet up the previous initiatives immensely. It will focus upon giving that venerable “Adopt, Don’t Shop” slogan a big ‘dose of steroids’ by coupling it with a call for widespread “Indirect Legislation” (which will be described in the petition). As this is such a milestone petition, we’re taking a little extra time to first have it ‘reviewed/commented upon’ by a couple of other animal organizations. We hope to post it on or about Monday, Feb. 9. Meanwhile, we’re asking everyone to please put ‘everything you have’ into signing and spreading the recent companion “Extended Pet Industry” petition: https://www.change.org/p/matthew-bershadker-stop-contributing-to-unnecessary-shelter-intake-impoundment-and-killing-of-dogs-and-cats-far-better-proactively-support-4-major-humane-initiatives This ‘EPI’ petition is the “table setter” providing all the background to justify the need for the new petition. As such, it is vitally important to be maximizing its distribution. (For any among you who may find it difficult to believe that some of the organizations in this ‘EPI’ petition are not doing all they can for animals, we acknowledge that they are doing some good…and they certainly have to be perceived as doing (some) good if they are going to retain their huge ‘donor bases’. Given that they take in hundreds of millions of donor dollars every year, they certainly should be doing some good!) However, these organizations ’believe’ (or rationalize among themselves…) that political tradeoffs are a fact of life and, on balance, they are ‘doing what they can’. To be very direct here, Baloney!! They are trading away WAY TOO MUCH, i.e. by choosing to do WAY TOO LITTLE (or NOTHING AT ALL…) on such critical and fundamental issues as Reducing Shelter INTAKE; Elevating the Legal Status of Companion Animals; Halting Irresponsible Backyard Breeding…everywhere. And, the vested interests of animal control directors...most everywhere…also perpetuate shelter INTAKE and resultant carnage. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Thanks very much for your continuing support.
