Let Tiverton Play
The Issue
The Tiverton Boys Soccer Team was knocked out of the playoffs due to a close contact of COVID from a player on another soccer team. We were all upset after having an amazing undefeated season and having it come to an end just like that. While we understand the situation we are in, we just want to play, and moving the game back a few days can’t hurt.
We were informed just a few hours ago, we would get to play and we all started game planning and we were so excited to be given a gift, to play in this years post season. Considering nobody on our team was in close contact with this player for more than 15 minutes, we were told we were going to get to compete. We all wore masks and all followed the safety guidelines, as we were all outside during this game .
It’s not very fair for the Paul Cuffee team to make a petition saying they don’t feel safe playing us. We were informed we wouldn’t be able to play, partially due to the petition they created. This was just a few hours after getting our hopes up that we might just get to play a few more soccer games. Paul Cuffee made this petition because they don’t want to have to play the Tiverton soccer team and wanted a free first round bye to the semi finals. Their own petition was enough to bounce us out of the playoffs. Tiverton had never forfeited this match, only informed they couldn’t participate in the post season.
It would mean a lot to us if you could drop a signature to show your support for the Tiverton boys soccer team, as well as the Tiverton girls soccer team who is in a very similar season ending situation. We are very upset, and just want to play the game we love and have enjoyed our entire lives. The seniors are devastated, we’ve worked so hard to get this point and for what? We believe we deserve a shot, like any other team. We only get four years of high school soccer and this is the second time the team has had to quarantine during this season, and would do anything to continue to play in 2020.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to try and reverse the decision to not let us play. By signing, we hope to get one step closer to playing this game. Thank you.
