The Issue

The Chelsea corridor (including the Seahaus, Ocean Club and Island Club) in Atlantic City, NJ, is seeking to become part of the Gateway District. This zoning designation (BC GATEWAY) will profoundly benefit our community.

Currently, our neighbors directly to the south enjoy the benefits of this zoning classification on the boardwalk, providing residents more influence over local developments and ensuring that our community's needs and interests are better represented.

Chelsea is a key residential area on the boardwalk known for its tranquility and strategic location. Despite this, we are not yet recognized as part of the Gateway District. The Ocean Club in Chelsea is one of New Jersey's highest-paying, non-casino tax contributors, underscoring our economic significance.

Recognizing these four blocks as part of the Gateway District would not only acknowledge the contributions of our vibrant community but also enhance our ability to guide development in a manner that respects our residential character.

The Gateway designation brings not only increased influence over local zoning laws but also attracts more investment and development opportunities, aligning with the needs and aspirations of residents. The Chelsea District deserves the same consideration and benefits that our adjacent neighborhoods enjoy, further enriching the cultural and economic landscape of Atlantic City.

Supporting this initiative will ensure that the voices of the Chelsea District residents are heard and respected, enabling our community to thrive in a way that is sustainable and beneficial to all of Atlantic City. Join us in requesting that our city grant Chelsea this crucial zoning change. Sign this petition to help us bring about positive and meaningful change for our community.
