Rezone Bedford Park, The Bronx to Meet Community Needs

Rezone Bedford Park, The Bronx to Meet Community Needs
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are concerned residents of the Bedford Park, The Bronx, and surrounding communities.
Part of our Bedford Park community is zoned R8. When the area was last reviewed regarding this R8 zoning, many streets were downzoned, which limited the development regarding size and height. Sadly and mistakenly, in our view, 202nd and 203rd Streets were left at R8 despite promises to revisit and reconsider. At present, we are a mix of five and six-story apartment buildings and one to six-family houses, a very livable situation for an appropriate for many of our narrow, one way streets.
R8 zoning allows for the construction of disproportionately large buildings and an increase in population without proportionally increasing and updating necessities, such as parking, public transportation, sewer systems, and most critical, classroom space.
We request that the rest of Bedford Park, particularly 202nd and 203rd Streets, be downzoned ASAP AND since we recognize that this is a lengthy process, we request an immediate moratorium on development on 202nd and 203rd Streets.
We make this petition to our elected officials, New York City Planning offices, and various media outlets.
