As a parent of children who attend scout groups, I have witnessed first-hand the invaluable contributions that volunteer scout leaders make to our communities. These selfless individuals dedicate their time and energy to teach our children crucial skills and provide memorable experiences. Despite doing this role for free, they add immense value to our communities.

Scout leaders are instrumental in shaping the future of young people by teaching them essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience, and problem-solving. According to the Impact Study by The Scout Association (2018), 91% of scouts said they learned key skills at scouts that help them at school.

Yet despite their significant contributions, these volunteers often go unrecognized. It's high time we nationally acknowledge all Scout leaders as valuable members of our communities by rewarding them with a "purple card" giving discounts at shops, restaurants and for days out. This small token will not only show appreciation for their efforts but also encourage more people to take up volunteering roles in scouting.
