The Issue

Hi, my name is Sharon Buckalew and I wanted to start this petition because my daughter, Rylee, her girl scout troop, 11439 of Smithville, NJ and all the other recipients for either Silver or Gold Award are getting a virtual ceremony. These girls, OUR future leaders, have worked countless hours in their service projects to earn this high award in scouting. They deserve to be pinned by their leaders, mentors and/or parents!

I personally have seen Rylee and her troop work three long years on their community garden. Researching, pitching to companies for donations and building up their garden from scratch. Having to give up their summer to level the ground to finally having their opening day.

About 10% of girl scouts nationwide earn their Silver Award and fewer then 6% earn their Gold Award. We should honor these hardworking young ladies the way they deserve and I do not believe a virtual ceremony does any justice for them. Earning your Gold Award in Girl Scouts is one of the highest awards and by having a virtual ceremony, in my eyes, is not right. Please take the time to support our leaders of tomorrow by sharing and signing this petition. Thank you from a parent and Co-leader in Girl Scouts.
