The Issue

As a dedicated pharmacist, I find myself deeply disappointed by the recent decision of UFCW Local 1167 to ratify a three-year contract that feels undeniably rushed and dismissive of our core needs. This sense of frustration is shared among my colleagues, who also feel that our voices were ignored in the hasty negotiations.

Pharmacists within Local 1167 have been tirelessly working on the frontlines, providing essential healthcare services to our community. Our roles have expanded, yet the compensation and working conditions outlined in this new contract fail to reflect our increased responsibilities and the challenges we face daily. The economic reality is that the cost of living continues to rise, while the percentage increase in our pay does not adequately match this inflationary tide.

We believe that the current contract does not prioritize the safety and well-being of pharmacists. Essential provisions like effective staffing levels and support systems are crucial to maintaining high-quality patient care and a sustainable work-life balance. The lack of attention to these aspects in the new agreement is alarming and calls for urgent reconsideration.

Furthermore, during negotiations, numerous members expressed these valid concerns, but the speed at which the decision was made suggests our input was overshadowed by the urgency to finalize the deal. This has led to a contract that does not truly represent the interests and well-being of those it affects most.

Therefore, we urge UFCW Local 1167 to reopen discussions and involve pharmacists in a manner that thoroughly addresses our grievances. By collaborating, we can develop a contract that ensures fair compensation, adequate working conditions, and recognizes the vital role pharmacists play in the healthcare system.

We are not just demanding changes for ourselves but advocating for better healthcare services for our community at large. A contract that respects and supports pharmacists will inevitably lead to improved patient care.

Please join us in calling on UFCW Local 1167 to revise this contract. Sign this petition to ensure our voices are heard and our concerns are fully addressed.
