Revoke UBC Law School's Admission of a Serial Rapist - Justice for McGill's SA Survivors

The following recounts a former McGill student's history of sexual violence and details the inconsequential nature of his penalty.

In the fall of 2020, a first-year McGill student committed several acts of sexual violence; namely rape, sexual coercion and sexual harassment. Both on campus and in student housing, he preyed on multiple young, drunk, female students. Some of which were minors.

In December 2020, a number of survivors came forward and detailed their traumatizing experiences with this sexual predator. In addition, they provided extensive evidence against him. In an effort to get justice for these survivors, McGill's student body accumulated 51k signatures on change.org. Despite this call to action, their rapist has yet to face adequate repercussions for his crimes and continues to lead a prosperous life.

At the end of the 2020 Winter semester, the perpetrator disenrolled from McGill University.  Upon his disenrollment, he was swiftly accepted into the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus). In the following years, he built a new life for himself and continuously coerced his victims into silence. Meanwhile, the survivors of his attacks suffered from PTSD, endless harassment and a slew of death threats.

Today, the perpetrator promotes himself as a "victim of false and defamatory allegations". With this label, he avoids accountability under the guise of advocacy, framing those who accused him as members of a discriminatory group. Worse still, has been offered admission to UBC's Peter A. Allard School of Law, where he intends to become a criminal defence lawyer.

As McGill students, we are outraged that this sexual predator's crimes have had next to no impact on his academic career. Given his history of sexual violence, it is unacceptable for this individual to be granted the privilege of attending law school. His admission would not only pose a threat to UBC students. It would also give him the power to acquit sexual offenders and inflict further harm upon SA survivors in the future. His presence in the legal system would contribute to a culture of impunity and disregard for those impacted by sexual violence.

We call on the administration of UBC and Peter A. Allard School of Law to revoke this individual's offer of admission. A clear message must be sent to those who prioritize a repeat sex offender's success over the well-being of his victims.

It is time for Canadian Universities, especially UBC and McGill, to uphold their so-called values of safety, respect and dignity for all. If they remain silent, they will remain complicit.

Please sign this petition to bring this individual to justice and give a voice to his victims. Together, we have the power to make genuine change.
