Revoke the Royal prefix from the Kennel Club

Revoke the Royal prefix from the Kennel Club
The Issue
The Royal Kennel Club registers and sells puppies on their own website whose parents have had NO hereditary health tests and the breeder and premises NO welfare checks. They could well have been born in the appalling conditions we associate with puppy farms. These puppies can face a lifetime of pain and discomfort and in some instances shortened lifespans. The mental and financial burden to those who care for these ill and disabled dogs is immense.
The puppy buying public have been led to believe, from the long standing tradition of the kennel club, that kennel club registered dogs are bred to the highest of standards regards health and welfare.
The Kennel Club perpetuate this myth by way of their tag line: “The UK’s largest organisation devoted to the health, welfare and training “ and again in their latest press release: “The Kennel Club is the only UK organisation of its kind and underlying all of the above functions is a strong ethos to safeguard and promote canine health and welfare.” And now with the addition of “Royal” to their name this myth is reinforced.
Until the Royal Kennel Club stops registering litters from un health tested parent dogs or those with poor results, the Royal Prefix should be put on hold and their strapline adjusted to reflect the fact that health is not their priority. Running two clearly identifiable separate registers would still enable the important pedigree information to be collated and enable them to continue receiving the millions of pounds from registrations fees. ( 9.566 million pounds profit in 2021/22 from registration).
By continuing to register and selling these litters the Kennel Club is condoning irresponsible dog breeding and more puppies will suffer. To be held in such high esteem as to receive the prefix of Royal they should be leading by example!
