Revoke the 'common ground' law in Harlow and Essex

Revoke the 'common ground' law in Harlow and Essex
The Issue
For the love, care, and respect of all horses and all affected animals, I urge you to consider the damaging impact of the 'common ground' law in Harlow and Essex. This legislation, intended for public good, is unfortunately being exploited, resulting in the traumatisation, cruelty, and neglect of horses and ponies.
Horses and ponies are majestic creatures that deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion. However, the current structural loophole within the 'common ground' law permits individuals to neglect these animals, often leaving them in poor conditions without appropriate care or supervision. Many horses and ponies are found malnourished, without adequate food or water, shelter, and in dire need of medical attention. This is not just a violation of animal rights but a severe humanitarian oversight.
Statistics reveal that the number of neglected horses in the Harlow and Essex areas has increased since the enactment of this law. Local animal rescue centres are overwhelmed, reporting cases of horses left to fend for themselves in harsh weather conditions. RSPCA and other animal welfare organisations have been forced to intervene more frequently than ever, but their resources are stretched thin.
The emotional distress this law causes to these vulnerable animals is unacceptable. As concerned citizens, we cannot stand by as these animals suffer due to legislative oversights. It is imperative for all of our communities to advocate for these voiceless victims and to work towards a more ethical and humane approach in managing common grounds.
Revoking or amending this law to prevent further exploitation is a feasible and necessary step. We propose a review and realignment of the law to include specific animal welfare clauses and stricter regulations on the upkeep of animals on common grounds.
By signing this petition, you help send a strong message to the local government urging them to safeguard the wellbeing of our horses and ponies. Every signature brings us closer to compassion and justice for these beautiful creatures. Please sign and share this petition to help end this ongoing cruelty. Together, we can make a difference.
