Revoke Road Traffic Act 295 14a.1 to Protect the Economically Vulnerable
The Issue
I am part of a family of self-employed citizens currently facing difficulties due to the implications of Road Traffic Act 295 14a.1. We own multiple vehicles, on which we have invested significant time, energy, and money. However, the stringent requirements of this act demand inspection of each vehicle at a cost of $100, adding an unnecessary burden to our cost of living. This situation is dire, considering our economic circumstances and the role these vehicles play in our lives and business.
Moreover, this act poses a threat not only to us but also to the entire working class and the indigent citizenry in our community. It is important to note that many cannot afford to purchase vehicles less than 10 years old, making the act unduly penalizing while the rich will not be effected. The act also potentially puts at risk parts stores and mechanic shops that specialize in maintaining older vehicles. The ripple effect is far-reaching with the consequences touching on transportation logistics and even our children's safety during school commutes.
The alternative available is public transportation, which has proven unreliable and inconsistent, making it not only difficult to operate our business but also challenging to complete mundane daily chores. We join hands in this plea for the government to reconsider the effect of this act on the ordinary citizen and to revoke Road Traffic Act 295 14a.1 for the collective good.
