Revoke NYSC Certificate of Any Corps Member Found Molesting Children – Life Imprisonment &
The Issue
Every child in Nigeria deserves a safe and secure school environment. Yet far too often, the people entrusted with their protection betray that trust. We demand urgent, sweeping reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) system to hold child‑abusing corps members fully accountable — for the sake of our children and our society.
What we are calling for:
That the NYSC revoke the certificates and service status of any corps member (male or female) found guilty of molesting children or underage pupils in schools.
That such offenders be sentenced to life imprisonment, as an unmistakable deterrent and safeguard for children.
That the NYSC Director‑General immediately initiate a nationwide reform programme:
Install state‑level community leaders in every state to oversee child safety in primary and secondary schools.
Run three awareness and advocacy campaigns each year for one full year, across every school, to teach children: “You have a right to speak up. You will be heard.”
Provide hotlines, counselling services, training for children in what abuse is and how to report it safely.
That this petition references the case of Melanin Goddess vs Stanley Obaro (2015) where a corps member posted to a secondary school allegedly assaulted a pupil, her testimony below
"His full name is STANLEY OBARO
He resides in Portharcourt
He has a foundation called THE STANLEY OBARO FOUNDATION.
He is an usher at Christ Embassy Church.
He was an NYSC youth corper at my secondary school; he was 32 and I was 14.His other victims (about 4 other students)were also students like me, all between the ages of 13 to 16
He tricked us and abused us.
STANLEY HAD SEX WITH ME WHILE I WAS 14 years old. My friend was 15 too when it happened.
And even until September this year, he tried to reach out to me, so clearly he isn’t sorry for what he did.
STANLEY IS A REPEATED ABUSER!
and that the NYSC, including the DG’s office, actively follow up and ensure such cases are not ignored but catalyze reform"
Why this matters:
A school should be a sanctuary, not a place of fear.
When children are abused by those meant to protect them, the harm is deep, lasting, and undermines trust in our institutions.
By revoking certificates and enforcing life sentences for perpetrators, we send a clear message: child‑abuse will not be tolerated — especially in the NYSC programme.
Awareness and empowerment of children and communities ensure that no abuse remains hidden.
Every state having a dedicated community leader means local oversight, local accountability, local support — not just an abstract promise.
How funds will be used:
We have also launched a GoFundMe (and will link it alongside this petition) to raise funds for the first year of this awareness programme: staffing, training materials, hotlines, community‑leader stipends, travel, and media campaigns in schools across Nigeria. Donations go directly to protecting children and reforming the system.
What we want you to do:
Sign this petition to demand accountability from the NYSC and the DG.
Share widely so every parent, every teacher, every leader in Nigeria knows: the call for reform is strong.
Support the GoFundMe to turn the petition into real action in every state, every school.
Let us stand together. Let us protect our children. Let the NYSC be an institution of service and safety — not one of silence and neglect. Let the DG act now. Let reform begin today.
Thank you.
