PETITION TO REVOKE LICENCE

RE: Newstalk ZB's Broadcasting Licence

WE, the undersigned, humbly pray:

THAT you invoke whatever powers you may have to revoke the radio broadcasting licence for "Newstalk ZB" or at the least refuse or object to said licence at the next occasion it falls due for renewal.

IN SUPPORT OF WHICH we state we are heartily sick and disgusted at the constant barrage of racist dog-whistling, misogynistic put-downs, uncritical support of odious misinformation, slanderous and mayhap venal attempts to denigrate and undermine the status and power of the government of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and general ill-informed callow carping to which the station's so-called "hosts" endlessly subject listeners;

AND wish to put on record it is our belief the self-proclaimed "shock jocks" of this station have and are doing more to encourage division and dissent amongst the people of this country than arguably any other source. They are acting without care in what is, in effect, a treasonous manner.

Any reasonable society would label this for what it is: hate speech.

FOR the grievous harm this causes, which is real and measurable in terms of both mental health and the provocation of violence, we implore you to do all in your power to shut down the perpetrators of this tyranny of the airwaves for the sake of our present and future wellbeing as citizens.
