Revoke Machado’s Nobel: Peace is Not a Gift for Trump

El problema

We, the undersigned citizens of the international community, express our profound concern regarding the actions of 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado.

On January 15, 2026, Ms. Machado publicly "gifted" her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Donald Trump. We believe this act constitutes a grave violation of the spirit, dignity, and neutrality that the Nobel Peace Prize represents.

Why This Matters

1. Political Partisanship: The Nobel Peace Prize is intended to honor universal efforts for peace and human rights, not to be used as a political tool or a "trophy" for foreign political leaders.

2. Devaluation of the Prize: By handing over this prestigious honor to a third party, the laureate has signaled that the award is personal property to be traded for political favor, rather than a sacred trust held on behalf of the people she represents.

3. Institutional Integrity: Allowing such a gesture to go unchallenged undermines the credibility of the Nobel Committee and suggests that the Prize can be co-opted by specific geopolitical interests.

Our Demand

While we acknowledge that the Statutes of the Nobel Foundation currently do not allow for the formal revocation of a prize, we call upon the Norwegian Nobel Committee to:

• Issue a formal statement clarifying that the Nobel Peace Prize is non-transferable and belongs solely to the designated laureate.

• Publicly distance the Committee from the laureate’s gesture, reaffirming that the Prize must never be used to endorse specific partisan political agendas.

• Declare a "Moral Disqualification" of the act, noting that such behavior is inconsistent with the legacy of past laureates who used their platform for global unity rather than political alignment.
