I just sent this to Senator Mark Obenshain and Delegate Tony Wilt. Feel free to copy, paste, and send your own version, because this is unacceptable.
Senator Chris Head recently confirmed what many of us already feared: the state’s priority with Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation isn’t to shut it down—but to “bring it into compliance” through enforcement actions and fines.
Let me be clear:
This facility has had DECADES of abuse, neglect, and Medicare/Medicaid fraud. They haven’t just failed—they’ve betrayed the public trust. They have caused real harm, stolen public dollars, and traumatized both residents and caregivers. They’ve had more than enough chances.
Anything less than revoking their license to operate sends the message that elder abuse is just another regulatory hiccup—and that’s a message that puts every vulnerable resident in Virginia at continued risk.
I’ve submitted FOIA requests to both Obenshain and Wilt’s offices for all records related to this facility, HB1753, long-term care oversight, and their responses (or lack thereof) to concerned constituents like me. I’ll be reviewing them closely.
But in the meantime, here’s what they need to hear from you:
📣 We don’t want another slap on the wrist.
📣 We don’t want another promise of “future reforms.”
📣 We want their license GONE.
📣 We want Dale’s Law passed.
📣 We want actual accountability—NOW.

Blowing the whistle isn’t the problem. The problem is when no one listens.
