As a follower of Jesus Christ, casting the figure of divine significance as such in a theater event touches my heart and thousands of other believers deeply. Our congregations uphold the utmost respect for Jesus as the son of God and seeing Him represented by a Trans artist like Cynthia Erivo can be considered blasphemous and a mockery to many. Transgender representation in the media and entertainment industry is important, but, in many religious observers’ opinions, it should not be done at the expense of disrespecting religious figures and beliefs. As cited in a Pew Research Study, over 70% of adult Americans identify as Christians, making the portrayal of religious figures a delicate matter that must be handled thoughtfully. Therefore, we firmly ask for a reevaluation of the said casting. Every believer deserves the right to see their faith treated with respect and not mocked in any form.
