The Issue

Every day, residents of Bangalore, like myself, rely on our two-wheelers as a means to navigate the bustling streets of this vibrant city efficiently. My journey, like that of thousands of others, is a testament to the flexibility and speed that riding a bike provides. Whether it's the ease of weaving through traffic or the convenience of quick stops, two-wheelers are more than just a mode of transport—they are a lifeline in a city known for its traffic congestion.

However, the recent imposition of restrictions by the Bangalore Traffic Police, which disallow two-wheelers from accessing several flyovers effective September 4th, 2026, has created unnecessary hardships for many responsible riders. These restrictions are not only unjust but also counter-productive. The rationale behind them seems flawed, especially when most of us adhere to traffic norms diligently and ride safely.

This policy overlooks the needs of daily commuters like us who choose two-wheelers to save time, reduce fuel consumption, and minimize our carbon footprint. Restricting access to flyovers exacerbates traffic woes rather than alleviating them. It's crucial to recognize that these flyovers were designed to ease Bangalore's notorious traffic, and excluding a significant segment of commuters contradicts their purpose.

According to data from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, two-wheelers make up a substantial portion of the total vehicle count. With traffic congestion already a significant issue, these restrictions further burden the road networks below, leading to increased travel time and pollution.

I urge the Bangalore Traffic Police to reconsider these restrictions and engage in dialogue with impacted citizens and stakeholders to develop solutions that prioritize safety without compromising on the utility that flyovers provide. For instance, instead of an outright ban, implementing measures such as designated lanes or reinforced enforcement of traffic rules can be more effective.

Please join me in advocating for a rescindment of these restrictions. Sign this petition to demand a balanced and fair consideration for two-wheeler riders, ensuring that Bangalore remains a commuter-friendly city for all.
