The Issue

UPDATE: 8/25pm - animal control completed a welfare check and noted overcrowding and lack of proper living conditions, they sent their findings to IDALS

UPDATE: 8/26 - I have emailed mayor Connie Boesen, IDALS and submitted a complaint to IDALS.

aqualand pets plus neglects animals and puts them in unsafe and unsanitary situations. as reptiles and exotic animals are not as protected as domestic pets we need to advocate and protect them from greedy, inhumane retailers.  since 2011 there have been 18 complaints reported to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and 18 re-inspections of the welfare of the animals in the building. there are hundreds of concerned individuals leaving reviews on aqualand pet plus’ google yet no response from the owner, Michael Jensen, or concern from the city. in a very recent review there were photos posted of the snake on aspen bedding and was extremely underweight and dehydrated. I stopped by for a new lid for my snake enclosure and was appalled at the state of the animals in the building. there were two ball pythons to a  maybe 30gal tank as well as several bearded dragons in one tank. one ball python was extremely underweight and dehydrated. rabbits had no hay, which leads to G.I. stasis. I refused to purchase or support this company.  animals can’t thrive or even live in conditions like these, they fight for resources and can become aggressive. most importantly, they die.  as a community we need to come together and advocate for these small animals and put pressure on the city and IDALS to revoke aqualand pet plus animal licensing.  please share, reach out with your experiences or leave a comment.  https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT6qeuh17/
